People Encouraging Enterprise in Rossendale, PEER, was the first project of its kind in the UK, one that has been the catalyst to bring a sea change to the local community in Rossendale.
PEER is a social enterprise delivering sustainable regeneration by focusing communities on encouraging enterprise in all its forms.
Over four years it has successfully brought together interested members of the community to support their Facilitator to help local businesses and social enterprises set up and develop.
Through their involvement with PEER these community champions have developed a clearer understanding of local economic issues and many have gone on to improve the community where they live and work.
The PEER model has been a catalyst to bting about this change. It is a 'massively cost effective way of mobilising the community to enable local regeneration'.
PEER in Rossendale is the 2007 North West Capital of Enterprise winner.
